Greene County hosted East Sac County in a high school soccer girl/boy doubleheader on Friday at Karber Field in Grand Junction. The ESC girls and Greene County boys were winners.
The Raiders won their fifth match in a row and improved to 11-3 while the Rams fell to 0-13. The final score was 6-0. Coach Peyton Paddock’s Rams have been shut out 10 times and they’ve totaled three goals for the season.
Coach Carl Behne’s boys, ranked number 12 in Class 1A, improved to 10-6. The Raiders fell to 0-13. ESC entered the match not having allowed more than seven goals all season, so they’ve played full matches every time out, but they had just six goals to their credit this season, and not more than one goal in any contest. Both trends continued as the Rams won 5-0.
The Rams were led in scoring by senior Alex Roberts with three goals, the first “hat trick” of his varsity career. Senior Chance McCollum and sophomore Jose Velazco each had one goal.
Greene County closes out the boys’ regular season this Monday with a 5:30 p.m. varsity contest in Grand Junction at Karber Field vs. Panorama. On May 20, the Rams host Atlantic to begin Class 1A Substate 7 action at 7 p.m.
