Another bond project for the City of Jefferson is nearing completion.

The public parking lot west of City Hall is finishing up the final phase of the project with replacing the north side with concrete. City Administrator Mike Palmer says the parking lot before was just gravel and so the Council approved a bond issuance, where this parking lot was included. However, it was also bid together with the downtown north alleyway. After a contractor completed the alleyway, there was only $40,000 left for the parking lot.

“Our Public Works guys said, ‘For what’s leftover in the pot, we can do that ourselves,’ and they have. They do a really good job. They get their power screeds out there and you’d think they do this for a living, how nicely it’s finished.”

The Public Works Department also installed the curb and gutter in the middle of the parking lot. Palmer adds, while this is a nice addition for parking, it still doesn’t solve all of the parking problems, which he believes is a nice problem to have considering the increase in the number of businesses coming back to the square.
