As the school year has officially ended for our area schools, there will be more youth out and about and public officials want people to remember some safety tips.

Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn reminds motorists to slow down with more people enjoying the outdoors.

“We have a lot of kids out walking, they’re out on their bicycles, they’re out on skateboards, out on scooters they’re not as aware as we should be when they are out on the streets, or maybe even crossing the street so we need to make sure we are a little more vigilant in watching out for those people and those kids.”

Vaughn tells Raccoon Valley Radio kids  may not be as aware in regards to obeying traffic signs and looking both ways before crossing the roads.

“It’s going to be our responsibility to take a little better effort on our part to watch out for those kiddos.”

Vaughn adds to be aware of increased bicycling traffic with more people anticipated to use the Raccoon River Valley Trail.
