The public is invited to a special event at the Jefferson Elks Lodge tomorrow.

Elks member Jerry Roberts says they are hosting a concert of a gifted seven-year-old violinist from Duncombe, Iowa named Jewell Winninger. The event will begin with a free-will offering meal consisting of a loose-meat sandwich, baked beans, potato salad, dessert and a beverage at 6:30pm, and the concert will follow. Roberts explains how the event came together, following a letter and phone call from Jewell’s mother.

“(They) called us and said, ‘We’re a family. We moved from Wyoming and now we’re in Duncombe. We’re in tune with the Elks because my husband was an Elk out in Wyoming. Now we’re here and we just want to know if there’s any possibility of putting on a little concert for people in your community.”

Proceeds from the meal will be used by Winninger for tuition to the Omaha Suzuki Camp for gifted musicians. The event is limited to 125 people and reservations are required. Contact the Elks Lodge at 515-386-2106 between 4-7pm tonight to reserve your spot.
