With the recent acceptance of a contract with The Samuels Group by the Dallas County Supervisors, a piece of Dallas County history will be restored.
The Carriage House restoration project will cost approximately $141,130 for the building located on the Health and Human Services Campus. Supervisor Mark Hanson says the Carriage House is an original building on the grounds.
“It’s an original building to the farm and we did want to restore it. Make sure that we’ve got sufficient roof and windows and tuck pointing and to make sure it’s preserved for future generations. It’s a wonderful building on the farm.”
Hanson tells Raccoon Valley Radio the Carriage House was constructed between 1870 and 1880. He explains some of the uses the Carriage House had in the past.
“We thought to preserve the Carriage House itself that had the facilities for the original wagons that the horses would pull and the cold storage in the basement where a lot of the canning and the jars were held for the residents of the facilities, was certainly worth preserving.”
The Dallas County Board of Supervisors approved the contract at their regular meeting on June 23rd.
