Fall brings leaves and sticks that fall from trees leading to more yard waste, and an alternative option to dispose of it will soon be available for Perry residents.

City Administrator Sven Peterson says a yard waste drop off site will soon be available to Perry residents. Peterson says this isn’t a new idea as it was offered by the City some time ago but had to be stopped.

“It really got to the point that it was getting abused to the point that we were unable to really keep or even get a handle on what was being disposed (of) out there from a whole roof of shingles. I think there was an entire garage found there, an entire deck. So, people were really just using it as a dump.”

Peterson tells Raccoon Valley Radio the drop off site is coming back with an improved system. Peterson says people will be able to take their yard waste to the location and dispose of it, but it will be regulated and monitored.

“Most importantly there are a few very good cameras there to be able to catch people dumping illegally as well as track down who they are so that if they do misuse the site they will be fined a minimum of $500.”

Peterson says the location of the new trial yard waste disposal site will be 14325 Ivy Place near where the Sanitation Department is housed. The dates that the site would be open is 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday October 18th to December 10th with the exception of observed holidays and on Saturday’s from 8 a.m. to noon.
