Greene County automatically qualified events for the May 19-20-21 Coed State Track & Field Meet in Des Moines at Thursday’s Class 2A State Qualifying Meet in Treynor. Girls’ coach Derek Merk saw two events finish in the top two to gain automatic berths at State while coach Chad Morton watched as three events automatically qualified on the boys’ side. The automatic qualifiers are:

Girls long jump Olivia Shannon 17′ 4-3/4″, second place; Girls 4 x 100 meter relay (Shannon-Katrina Heupel-Natalie Heupel-Bella Schroeder) :52.54, second place.

Boys 110 meter high hurdles Jackson Morton :14.98, first place; Boys high jump Nathan Black 6′ 0″, second place; 400 meter low hurdles Morton :55.50, second place.

There were eight qualifying sites in 2A and there are 24 qualifiers to State in each event. Sixteen of the 24 spots are automatic and the final eight are determined by comparing performances statewide in 2A. The complete list of qualifiers including those that did not automatically qualify is expected to be released Saturday because not all meets were contested last night due to stormy weather. Those meets will be held today.

Van Meter won the team title for girls with 125 points, followed by Treynor 107, Underwood 105, Clarinda 76, Greene County 53, Shenandoah 51, West Central Valley 50, Panorama 48, ACGC 40, Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) 39, Red Oak 33, Missouri Valley 13.
