The Adair County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest of a suspect in connection to crashing a stolen vehicle and illegally entering a rural home earlier this month.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, 25-year-old Luis Penaloza Garcia of Omaha, Nebraska was arrested upon his release from a Des Moines hospital on Monday. The Adair County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation began an investigation on June 9th, when Garcia crashed a reported stolen vehicle from Omaha in the median on Interstate 80 near the Adair rest stop. It is believed that Garcia also broke into a rural home in southwest Casey where the homeowner shot the intruder.

Garcia has been charged with a Class C Felony for second degree burglary, a Class D Felony for second degree theft and a misdemeanor for fourth degree theft. He was booked into the Adair County Jail where he is being held under a $70,000 bond.
