Residents in central Iowa that have weekend plans outdoors will experience hot temperatures with a slight chance of thunderstorms.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Andrew Ansorge says that temperatures will really warm up today and then carry on throughout the weekend with a high of 98 degrees on Saturday and 91 on Sunday. Ansorge says that people need to take precautions when outside.

“For heat index values on Saturday afternoon. We’ll be looking at right around 105 degrees. So they’ll be pretty hot. People want to make sure they’re taking extra water if they have any plans outdoors that day.”

Ansorge adds that there is a chance for potential severe thunderstorms in the area Saturday.

“It’ll be interesting to see when those thunderstorm chances come down. There’s a little bit of difference in the model solutions we look at. Right now, it looks like we’ll probably hold off much of the day Saturday for your listening area. But then as we get into Saturday night, into Sunday, we’ll be looking at storm chances. We’ll really depend on when those storms come through and how strong they’ll be as they get to the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area.”

Anytime there is severe weather in Greene, Dallas or Guthrie counties, Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team provides live coverage of the storms until the storms drop below severe levels or they move out of the listening area.
