The newly formed Iowa House District 47 will have a new representative going into the next legislative session.
Republican Carter Nordman of Panora recently defeated Democrat challenger Gary Overla to represent Greene, Guthrie and the northwestern portion of Dallas County in the redistricted House 47th District. He expressed his gratitude for being re-elected to the Iowa House.
“First and foremost I just want to thank the people of District 47 to allowing me the opportunity to continue to serve in the Iowa House. It has been such an honor and privilege to represent my community and quite frankly I’m looking forward to another two years of giving a voice to the people of Guthrie, Greene and Dallas counties.”
Nordman previously served in Iowa House District 19 during his first term, which was central and eastern Dallas County, but due to redistricting, Nordman moved to Panora to run in the 47th House District. Additionally, Republican House Speaker Pat Grassley recently announced Nordman as the chair of the education appropriation subcommittee, which Nordman says deals with allocating funds to the regent universities, community colleges and public school districts, along with specific programs such as Future Ready Iowa.
“And having just graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in December (of 2022), so I still do have that connection to our education system. I’m honored to have been appointed by Speaker Grassley to this committee, to head the education appropriations committee on the House side.”
Nordman will also serve on the appropriations, commerce, and local government committees. The 90th Iowa General Assembly will begin on January 9, 2023.
