Greene County had two champions, one runner-up, and a pair of third place finishes at Saturday’s Perry Invitational wrestling tournament. Coach Zach Beekman’s Rams finished fifth among 17 teams, despite only filling 10 of the 14 weight classes.

Undefeated and top ranked seniors Kale Petersen and McKinley Robbins won the 132 and 138 lbs. weight classes, respectively. Junior Gavin Scheuermann was second at 160 lbs. and sophomores Gavyn Winters (106) and Brent Dennhardt (145) each placed third. Senior foreign exchange student Bork Ersness from Norway placed sixth at 182 and junior Jackson Turner was eighth at 152 lbs.

Robbins became the Jefferson-based program’s all-time wins leader with his semifinal victory. He now has 149 against just six losses in his storied career and he had falls in all three matches following an opening round bye and is also now the program’s leader in the number of falls in a career at 86. Chase Flack had the previous wins record at 147 and Travis Forkner had owned the career falls mark at 85. Robbins, and Oregon State recruit, is 33-0 this season.

Petersen also had a first round bye before going 3-0 on Saturday, upping his career mark to 99-9, including a perfect 40-0 for Greene County after his transfer from Class 1A West Fork at the start of his junior year.

Petersen, Robbins, and the entire Ram team will be at home for the final time this season on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 6 p.m. on Senior Night when Greene County hosts Heart of Iowa Activities Conference opponents West Marshall (State Center) and Roland-Story (Story City). The fund-raising junior class chili supper with proceeds going to help pay for the Junior-Senior Prom will also be held on Tuesday.
