There are a few spots left for some programs during spring break with Greene County ISU Extension.
Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Hardaway tells Raccoon Valley Radio the first session of “Books for Cooks” will be held at the Churdan Public Library from 10am-noon on Monday, March 13th. This program is for kids in kindergarten through third grade and it’s about reading a book and then making a dish from that book. Hardaway notes there are a few spots left for that class with a $10 fee.
Extension Director Lori Mannel says the other with spots available on Wednesday, March 15th from 10am-1pm with one-hour sessions for 4-H’ers is the Youth for Quality Care for Animals (YQCA).
“YQCA is a program just for 4-H’ers. If you’re showing any species but a dog or horse, you have to take this class before you can show at the Greene County Fair. That’s open for grades 4th-12th and it’s just $3 and that is a required class, or you can take the class online.”
The other classes are full but there is a waiting list including Spring Into Coding on Tuesday, March 14th and Candy Making on Thursday, March 16th. Hardaway talks about why she wants to have these programs when there’s no school during spring break.
“I always think it’s important to keep those kids busy and thinking over spring break. They need the break, but sometimes it’s always good to do some fun activities they might not have the time for other times during the school year.”
