The City of Perry has a new top commanding officer in their fire department.

Grason Hill was recently approved by the Perry City Council to become the new interim fire chief taking over for Chris Hinds, who previously served as the fire chief for 17 years. Hill says that he has been with the Perry Fire Department for 30 years since 1993. He describes why he keeps serving with the volunteer fire department.

“There’s a fact that I know in my mind and with my team, we do the best of our ability to save somebody’s home property, their lives, things like that. It gives you a really good feeling doing these kinds of things, and that’s what keeps you going.”

He tells Raccoon Valley Radio how exciting it was to be promoted to the chief position.

“It was a compliment for the city of Perry to ask me to do this. It makes me feel really good. I’m very proud to be in this position, I’m proud of my team, they all support me and the city supports me so it’s very exciting.”

Hill took over the job on January 17th.
