
Several Greene County High School students achieved high marks from the recently held Iowa High School Music Association State Solo and Small Ensemble contest.
Choir Director Dave Heupel tells Raccoon Valley Radio seven individual students earned a Division I-rating for their solos and the lone small ensemble of the madrigal choir also earned a Division I-rating. The soloists included Karlee Fagerlind, Olivia Hoyt, Gavin Vander Linden, Brianna Blasnitz, Grace Hardaway, Lucy Vander Linden, and Daniele Madsen. Additionally, three students received a Division II-rating.
Band Director Wes Anderson says there were three soloists and five ensembles that earned a Division I-rating. The soloists were Lucy Vander Linden on flute, and Bill Wright for snare drum and marimba.
Additionally, the jazz choir, Ram Jive, recently competed at the Iowa Vocal Jazz Championships and received seventh place in Class 3A.
