For the 93rd time the “Battle for the Cowbell” high school football game will be played between Greene County and Perry at Linduska Field in Jefferson tonight. The Blue Jays are 1-0 and the Rams 0-1 after week one games last Friday. Perry defeated Des Moines Hoover at Dewey Field and Greene County lost on the road to Carroll High.
The Rams lead the series 61-29-2 and will be looking for their sixth straight win in the series. Perry will be trying for not only their first “Cowbell” victory since 2017, but also for their first win over a team other than DM Hoover, as well as their first road win, neither of which have occurred since ’17. Greene County has does a good job protecting the Linduska Field turf in recent seasons and has not lost a regular season home game in 2021 or ’22. Tonight will be the first time the Rams have been at home this season.
