fidget-fundraiser

Tomorrow night’s home football game for the Greene County Rams encourages fans to bring a certain item as a fundraiser during an important month.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and in honor of that, fans are invited to donate fidgets as part of a toy drive for the Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines in memory of Landon Martin. Martin passed away from brain cancer while in middle school and this year would’ve been his high school senior year.

Greene County High School Varsity Cheerleader Coach Shannon Black tells Raccoon Valley Radio they have done play-doh and bubble fundraisers in the past and the Martin family suggested donating fidgets this year because those are more suitable for kids of all ages and they help with anxiety and stressful situations at Blank Children’s Hospital.

Black says the senior cheerleaders and football players love for Landon is unwavering and that they’ve carried his memory throughout every grade in school. She also encourages fans to wear gold to signify September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month to the football game on Friday. T-shirts are still available at ShineOn Designs with a portion of the proceeds to be donated to Tori’s Angels in Landon’s honor.
