A Callender woman was recently sentenced to probation for an incident in Jefferson.

According to court documents, 59-year-old Shelli Larson pled guilty to a lesser charge of a serious misdemeanor for fourth degree fraudulent practices. She had a one year jail sentence suspended and placed on probation for one year with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office. 

The charge stemmed from an incident on January 18th at Wild Rose Casino and Resort in Jefferson. Court documents show Larson agreed to sit at a slot machine and claim a jackpot that 40-year-old Jason Pirie actually won. Larson filled out an IRS W-9 form, certifying under penalty of perjury that she won the jackpot. Pirie owed over $19,000 to the Iowa Department of Administrative Services Offset Program. Pirie was sentenced to five years in prison for his involvement.

Court documents show that Larson was ordered to pay over $500 in a fine, surcharges, victim restitution and court costs. As per the plea agreement, Larson was originally charged with a Class D Felony for second degree fraudulent practices and had the other charge of a Class D Felony for aid and abet passing winning wager to another person or providing false identification was dismissed.
