Dallas Center – Grimes boys and girls basketball both have major days ahead of them on the court, with the girls competing in the quarterfinals of the 4A girls state tournament and the boys looking to go to state in the 4A substate championship game.

The girls will be taking on the North Polk Comets in a rematch of the 2023 state championship game in 4A, one that saw DCG claim their first state championship in a 57-50 overtime victory. Both teams come in playing tremendous basketball with DCG at 20-3 and on a ten game winning streak and North Polk at 22-2 and on a fifteen game winning streak. The two teams were able to win and go undefeated in their conferences.

DCG won the non-conference matchup back in November 55-44, with senior Josie Lampe scoring 15 points and six rebounds and senior Kayla Reis getting 12 points and seven rebounds. The Mustangs outrebounded the Comets 31-19.

The boys will be facing the Waukee Warriors in a rematch for a substate championship from a year ago. Waukee won that game 49-38 in a tense matchup. DCG comes in at 19-3 while Waukee comes in at 16-7. DCG was able to be the co-champion of the Little Hawkeye Conference title while Waukee was the outright champion of the Central Iowa Metro League.

The game could be played at a very fast pace, with both teams like to push in transition. Waukee is 4th in 4A points averaging 70 while DCG is 9th averaging 66.8. The Mustangs will face a tremendous front line that is one of the best rebounding teams in the state. The Warriors will see the most unselfish team in 4A in DCG, who leads 4A in team assists in 21.2 per game.

The DCG girls will play at 1:30 pm in Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. The boys will play at 7:00 pm at Indianola High School. You can listen to both games on the new 943, 997, and AM 1310 KDLS or streaming online at raccoonvalleyradio.com. Pregame shows will start approximately 20 minutes before tip off.
