Johnathan Thompson of Grand Junction won his fourth straight AAU Kids State Wrestling Championship last weekend at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. The 13 year old Greene County seventh grader wrestles for Sebolt Wrestling Academy in Jefferson and he won the title in the seventh and eighth grade Group C at 80 lbs., outscoring five opponents 84-19 in five matches. He owns a 60 match winning streak and is one of the nation’s top pound-for-pound Youth wrestlers.

Thompson is preparing for an early April trip to Nevada for the World of Wrestling Reno Worlds, which bills itself as the Worlds Largest Wrestling Tournament. A title there would earn him the Trinity Award, a prestigious trophy earned by winning three national tournaments, and he’s already two-thirds of the way to that accomplishment.
