A non-profit organization recently donated protein to the local food pantry in Jefferson.

The Greene County Pork Producers gave $2,000 worth of pork to the Action Resource Center (ARC). Greene County Pork Producers Secretary Alyssa Juergensen says 600 pounds of ground pork, ham, ham shanks and breakfast sausage was delivered to the food pantry earlier this month.

Juergensen points out the idea for the donation came from the Iowa Pork Producers, “Pork in the Pantry” program, where money is given to a local food pantry for pork. The Greene County organization matched the Iowa Pork Producers donation. She adds they want to give back to the community in every way they can and the board thought this is another way they could do that.
