The Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs volleyball team is headed to the regional championship as the 22-18 Mustangs traveled to Ballard High School and weathered the Bomber’s storm last night. It would be an intense battle, with both teams refusing to loose, but Dallas Center-Grimes would come out on top in the end, 3-2. The Bombers would come out in an explosive fashion in the first set, defeating the Mustangs 25-20. Dallas Center-Grimes would refuse to give up, and would take the momentum defeating Ballard 25-21.

Now tied at 1-1, the Bombers would bombard the Mustangs, at one point leading 20-11 in the third set and would claim a 25-16 victory over Dallas Center-Grimes. The Mustangs would hold the lead during the third set but the Bombers would not give, taking it to the wire but Malia Carlson would cut off the Bombers momentum with a huge kill to bring the third set to a final score of 26-24 in favor of the Mustangs. Now at 2-2, it was winner takes all as the fight would continue into the final set. Staring down the barrel of a 7-3 deficit, the Mustangs would battle back as Carlson would have two huge kills, one to tie the game at 13-13, and the final kill to give the Mustangs the 15-13 win over the Bombers.

Now at 22-18, the Mustangs advance to the Class 4a Region 4 Championship and take on the 36-7 Clear Creek Amana Clippers at Clear Creek Amana High School on Tuesday. The battle is set to begin at 7pm.
