The city of Jefferson recently received some safety items from the Iowa Department of Transportation.
According to the DOT, the Work Zone Sign Package Program is funded through the Iowa Local Technical Assistance Program for smaller communities of a population up to 10,000 people, to receive work zone safety equipment. City Administrator Scott Peterson talks about getting this type of grant.
“Yeah, we did receive this grant. And in this case, the grant is actually the products are awarded directly to the city. So the DOT showed up and we off loaded them off the truck and they are here. So, it’s valued at about $3,000 worth of work zone signs.”
The package includes signs such as “One Lane Road Ahead,” along with barricades, traffic cones, safety vests, sign stands and channelizers. Peterson adds that the city has typically been purchasing these items in the past but is excited to get some of these for free from the DOT. According to Peterson, Jefferson was one of ten recipients out of 152 applications for this program.
