In their May 20th meeting, the Guthrie County Board of Supervisors approved the purchase of storm shelters.
Board Chair Supervisor Maggie Armstrong says that they were able to see some demonstration models from one company, and were able to view models on a few other company’s websites to see what went into the storm shelters. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio more about the decision to approve the purchase.
“So this is something that has been in the works for, I believe, at least a couple of years, knowing that we have areas around the county, whether they are on county campuses or also in county parks where we don’t have sufficient storm shelters. So like I said, this has been on the agenda for some time now, and it was great that the Board of Supervisors had an opportunity to take a look at some quotes from different companies around the country. And we ended up choosing a company that could build three for us that is located right here in Iowa.”
Armstrong mentions that the Board purchased three 8 foot by 10 foot shelters, which come with a recommended limit of 15 adults that can be in them at one time. She adds that these are outdoor installations, and there will be one at Nations Bridge Park, Lenon Mill Park, and at the Public Health Department building in Guthrie Center.
