The Dallas County Board of Supervisors met in regular session on Tuesday.

The board was given a budget presentation by Turner Construction Project Managers Jamie Rochleau and Melinda Packebush for the newly proposed Evidence Storage Building and Firing Range that will be utilized by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office. Packebush told the board that the Evidence Storage Building will be approximately 5,000 square feet, and the Firing Range will include 12 lanes and 12,000 square feet. She explained the total cost is estimated at $11,820,840 and will be a 13 month construction project that will start in September and was approved to be built. There was no action following the presentation.

Next, the board approved a ratification of the sheriff’s office union contract for three years until 2028, a bridge repair contract with Snyder and Associates Incorporated for $48,000 to fix the structure on the Raccoon River Valley Trail in Adel, a medical death investigation course grant contract for $1,600 for the Emergency Medical Services Department, and a resolution with City of Dexter for the county to provide law enforcement services with a 28E agreement for $48,162.09.

Additional items that were approved by the board were an Administration Building American with Disabilities Act ramp contract with Concrete Compressions in the amount of $5,500, and a mower purchase from Moss Brothers Incorporated for $11,051. The board also held a public hearing for the fiscal year 2025 budget amendment, and the board approved the amendment after the hearing for a total of $8,161,002.

County Finance Director Rob Tietz continued a conversation from last week about possibly placing two outdoor benches near the entrance of the Administration Building on the east side, along with an outdoor trash can in the vicinity. All three Supervisors agreed, but Supervisor Chair Kim Chapman wanted to discuss pricing before making a final decision.
