Greene County hosted South Hamilton (Jewell) in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference baseball on Monday night in a contest heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. The Hawks won the game by a 5-2 score at Allensworth Field and they improved t0 2-4 while the Rams fell to 1-6, and Greene County is still looking for its first win at home.

Senior Crew Conner took the pitching loss despite fanning the Hawks 12 times. Winning pitcher Landon Sogard also had 12 strikeouts. Sogard had walked 10 batters and hit three in his first nine innings of the season, but in Jefferson on Monday night he walked just one and hit no one, while allowing four hits. SH won by three runs while being charged with seven errors. The Rams had only four hits and committed three errors. A three run first put the Hawks ahead and the closest the Rams could get was 3-2 after three innings of play.

Conner had two of the four hits for the Rams with a double and single. Gavyn Winters singled once, as did Lane Fields. All three are seniors.

Coach Kyle Stalder’s team is on the road for JV/varsity action in Winterset tonight. They’ll host Perry tomorrow night, then remain at home Friday vs. Grand View Christian (Des Moines).
