
Coach Tom Kennedy’s Greene County High School softball team was a 6-4 winner vs. South Hamilton (Jewell) on Monday night in Jefferson in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. The Rams are 5-4 overall and 4-3 in the conference while the Hawks fell to 1-9, 0-8. Greene County has surpassed the 2024 win total overall and in conference play after finishing 4-20 on the campaign and 3-11 in the league.
The Rams led 6-0 midway through Monday night’s game, before four SH runs made it a two run game in the sixth inning. Sophomore Alaina Heard struck out 10 Hawks to go with three walks and she hit one batter with a pitch. Only one SH run was earned.
Offensively, Greene County had 14 hits. Junior Kaycee Pittman had three singles while junior Becca Anderson tripled and singled. Senior Payton Kokenge had two singles, as did sophomores Bellah Johnson and Sara Morlan. Senior Violet Reedy, sophomore Alivya Smith, and Heard also singled. Morlan batted in two runs with one RBI apiece from Anderson, Kokenge, and Reedy.
