The AC/GC Chargers football team is taking the field tomorrow for their first game of the season.

Many fans have been asking what the backfield would look like for the Chargers this season, with the top two rushers and quarterback graduating last year. Head Coach Cody Matthewson says that there will be some familiar faces stepping in to fill those positions.

“Tommy Scram was an individual who played at quarterback, and then our fullback position, to replace Mike Fuller, has been a rotation between Angel Martinez and Kade Sorensen. Tommy had a very successful junior season. He had success on the football field, had a big role in the basketball program, and then that translated and he was a state champion in track in the shuttle hurdle team, and then was an all-state baseball player. So he’s very confident. He’s grown. You can really just see him fitting into that role of controlling the huddle, not stepping over his words when he’s calling the play. Just really, being a leader is what we really saw. And obviously, his athleticism is there too, as we saw in other sports and what he’s able to do.”

Matthewson mentions that the rest of the positions will be much the same as last year, with Joe Crawford helping in the backfield for offense, and many of the same returners on the line, with the exception of Cash Suhr stepping into the center position. On defense, fans can expect much of the same, with the line being nearly identical, along with the linebackers, especially with Xander Harwood and Brexton Schneider helping to lead the team there. Matthewson adds that Crawford and Skram will once again be found at the cornerback position, with Charlie Christensen taking over at safety.
