With one major road resurfacing project in Boone County that leads into Greene County is completed for the most part, that means that traffic will hopefully subside using alternate routes.

Jefferson Resident Construction Engineer with DOT Jenny Hoskins says at 7pm on Friday, September 5th is when Highway 30, from just west of Ogden to the Boone and Greene County line had officially opened since its closure on June 15th. While the construction was underway, official detour routes were put in place for traffic that took motorists on different paved roads, while others chose some unofficial routes, such as gravel roadways.

Greene County Engineer Wade Weiss says while there weren’t too many gravel routes being used within Greene County, there were concerns about some drivers not being too careful and maybe not having the experience of driving on that kind of a surface. However, he tells Raccoon Valley Radio the Secondary Roads Department kept on top of making sure those roads received additional attention.

“We’re a little proactive. We knew that that’s where everybody’s going to be coming around there. Prior to the construction project starting, we put a lot of heavy maintenance rock on those segments, because we had a north-south road also that people are using. We like to get ahead of it and I think we did an excellent job.”

Hoskins adds that the contractor, Manatt’s, still has some finishing work left to do before the project can be completely closed out. This includes some seeding and a couple of days of subdrain work, which can be accomplished through other means of traffic control. She says Manatt’s did go 23 days past the allowed 60 working days for the project.
