The Perry City Council met in regular session on Monday.

Mayor Dirk Cavanaugh tells Raccoon Valley Radio that a Nuisance Abatement Hearing was held at the request of Stephen Carrick, who received a nuisance violation for a particular sign he had displayed. Cavanaugh explains that after extensive discussion, it was decided that unless the city council changes its ordinances, then nothing prohibits Carrick from having the sign up. He states that the council will have ongoing conversations about whether they would like to change the ordinances in order to dictate the signage.

Cavanaugh shares items on the agenda that were approved included resolutions to set a public hearing on the Urban Renewal Plan Amendment and a date of meeting at which it’s proposed to accept a development agreement with A.D.R. Axles USA, Incorporated including annual appropriation tax increment payments in an amount not to exceed $900,000 for October 20th at 6pm, a resolution to accept a professional services agreement with Bolton and Menk for the Soumas Avenue Extension Design not to exceed $350,000, plus a resolution for the Bolton and Menk services agreement pertaining to the Southeast Area Planning Services not to exceed $11,000.

Cavanaugh mentions that more items that were approved included a resolution to appoint five members to the Standing Committee, a resolution to make councilmember Bard Wolling as Mayor Pro Tem until December 31st, 2026, fix a time and place for a Nuisance Abatement Hearing for Deegan S.S. Devilbiss for October 6th at a regular council meeting, and then entered into a closed session pursuant to Iowa Code to discuss the employment of Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson.
