The City of Perry celebrated three local projects that were finally completed, with ribbon cutting ceremonies on Wednesday.
The city highlighted the Iowa Street Stormwater Wetland project, the Frog Creek Restoration project, and the Wastewater Treatment Facility. Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson shares that the Iowa Street Stormwater project, which is across the Super 8 Motel near Highway 141, focuses on stormwater quality and management in an effort to mitigate the runoff from the city’s Industrial Park.
Next, Peterson points out that the Frog Creek Restoration in Pattee Park has received an overhaul from city staff to clear out vegetation, re-doing grading, and adding cross veins. He details how the process will offer friendly public access to the creek.
“We were able to increase some of that holding capacity, so that that water stays in the banks in a large rain event. Those cross veins in Pattee Park also really create a nice way for our residents and visitors to be able to get down closer, and interact with the creek and get that experience.”
Finally, Peterson highlights the city has poured about $30 million into the Wastewater Treatment Facility, which has allowed the community to increase the volume of water but also the type of water handled. He says the project has been in the works since about 2016, and is happy to see all three of these systems reach the end of their completion.
