A few hunting seasons have already started, but if individuals are waiting for a later season, they are urged to remember to take any necessary hunter’s education they may need.

Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Jeremy King says that these classes and field days are important in helping make sure that individuals stay safe and avoid accidents while hunting. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio something he’s noticed.

“A lot of folks kind of forget about the hunter education until we get to the fall time and then they’re trying to backpedal and get to a hunter ed class or a field day, knowing that the hunting season’s upon us. But the best thing is obviously, try to get those taken care of in the spring and summer when it’s not really hunting season.”

King mentions that the DNR does have a number of hunter’s education classes and field days during the fall, and the easiest way to find out when and where they are is to check their website. He adds that it’s best to look for one that is relatively close to you, and to also remember to get your hunting license before heading out the first time this year.
