All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) and Utility Terrain Vehicles (UTVs) are very popular for short distance traveling, like driving around one’s farm.

Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Jeremy King says that there are some things that those operating ATVs and UTVs need to keep in mind though, and tells Raccoon Valley Radio of a few of them.

“Any UTVs will need to have a legal size SMV (slow moving vehicle) on the back of it as well. And those stickers, you can get at the recorder’s office as well, probably the easiest place. And there’s a few other things as far as the speed limit. You can’t go over 35 miles an hour, little things like that that you need to follow and be cognizant of.”

King mentions that if you don’t plan on taking the vehicle on the road, then those regulations do not apply, only so long as you are on private property. He adds that this can include driving around the field or pasture, putting up a deer stand on your property, or letting your dogs go for a run.
