Raccoon Valley Radio’s Caring Christmas Food Drives returns later this month.

The Caring Christmas Food Drive are live broadcasts from several locations throughout the holiday season, where people can donate non-perishable items or make a monetary donation, with everything raised during that remote stay with that community’s food pantry.

Greene County Action Resource Center (ARC) Manager Shirley Haupert says the number of individuals continues to remain high, averaging 800 people per month. She talks about how especially tough it can be for families and individuals going into the holiday season.

“It is a hard time because we’re not looking at just feeding the people, the families have to worry about paying their other bills (such as) the electricity, the utilities, (and) the rent. And so, sometimes they’re worried about how far their dollars can go and that’s where we can step in and help them get that food to help provide for feeding the kids and feeding the families.”

Haupert points out some of the basic food needs at this time includes soups, chili beans, pork and beans, chili fixings, vegetables, fruits and cereal. Additionally, anyone that come back during a Caring Christmas Food Drive remote or who makes a donation during the broadcast, can enter their name for a chance to win the grand prize cash drawing for $1,000 on each of the three stations, including KGRA, KDLS and KKRF.
