The Jefferson City Council met Tuesday night in regular session.

During open forum, resident Bill Allen voiced a concern about not being able to access the Council meeting agenda this past weekend on the city’s website. He also mentioned another concern about what he thought the Council was doing was spending money that was earmarked for another project on something else.

Another resident also voiced a concern about two businesses on the downtown square having concrete ramps within their footprint of their building, which he didn’t believe were handicap accessible. Building Official Chad Stevens said he would look into the Masonic Lodge and the Public House about their permits and the reason for having those ramps.

The Council then approved a resolution to authorize an internal advance of funding of Urban Renewal Projects within the Urban Renewal Plan. The amount that was recommended by the Finance Committee was for $800,000, which was earmarked for the forgivable loan for the former middle school apartment conversion project, administrative services, economic development organizations which includes Jefferson Matters and Greene County Development Corporation, and drainage improvements for the east side of town. The funds would be transferred from the Water Plant Construction fund and then be reimbursed with tax increment financing funds. The measure was approved by a 3-1 vote, with Council member Chad Sloan being the one no vote and Council member Matt Wetrich abstaining, as the Jefferson Matters Director.

The Council also approved a 30-day contract with PeopleService to operate the water plant for $3,000 per week and the 32nd pay estimate for the Wastewater Treatment Plant improvement project for $195,347 to Shank Constructors as also approved.
