Greene County ISU Extension is inviting anyone interested in learning more about expanding their cattle operation to a special program later this week.

Greene County Extension Director Jeff Lamoureux says the Advanced Calving Clinic is taking place on Wednesday at Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds from 9am-2pm. He states that some of the topics that will be covered include conception to calving, strategies for managing dystocia by practicing the calving model, beef cow nutrition basics, among other topics.

Lamoureux points out that ISU Extension Beef Specialist Erika Lundy-Woolfolk will help lead the program, along with two other local individuals.

“I also want to mention that Dr. (Amy) Klauer and Dr. (Charles) Martin from Fairview Clinic, they’ll be doing a session on some neonatal care for calves as well. So, (I) want to thank them and appreciate their help in making this calving clinic possible and giving their input on that.”

Lamoureux also thanks the Greene County Cattlemen’s Association for grilling steak sandwiches for lunch as well. The cost to attend is $25 and the deadline to register is by the end of the day on Monday. Contact the Extension Office in Jefferson at 515-386-2138 to sign up.
