District 12 Senator Amy Sinclair

The 2026 Iowa Legislative Session begins on Monday.

Senator for District 12 and Senate President Amy Sinclair says that she’s ready for the chambers to begin meeting once again, and to being able to serve the people of Iowa once again. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that as Senate President, she doesn’t generally sit on committees, but that there are a couple she will be part of for this session.

“That means that I’ll continue to serve on the Rules and Administration Committee, which is kind of a behind the scenes committee that manages what happens in the legislature as far as hiring staff and setting salaries and doing interim committees, those types of things. Resolutions, all of those things. And so I’ll continue to serve on that committee.”

Sinclair adds that she’s also been added to the Education Committee after the passing of a Senator over the summer of 2025. She adds that she will not be chairing either committee due to her responsibilities as Senate President, but looks forward to going over those bills that do come through those committees.
