The Greene County Board of Supervisors met for the first time this year on Thursday, during the budgeting process.

According to County Auditor Billie Jo Hoskins, the Board approved the elected officials’ salary increases for the 2027 fiscal year. County Recorder Deb McDonald and County Attorney Thomas Laehn asked for a three percent raise, County Treasurer Katlynn Mechaelsen requested a 3.25 percent increase and Hoskins made a pitch for 3.5 percent. County Sheriff Jack Williams asked for a total of 4.5 percent raise over his total wages for his office and then requested his salary increase within the total wages was eight percent.

The meeting minutes show that Supervisor John Muir motioned to approve a 3.25 percent increase for the Attorney, Auditor, Recorder, Treasurer and Supervisors, with the Sheriff at six percent. The minutes report that the motion failed for lack of a second. Then, Supervisor Dan Benitz made a motion, and it was seconded by Vice Chair Pete Bardole for a 3.5 percent increase for the Attorney, Auditor, Recorder, Treasurer and Supervisors, with the Sheriff getting seven percent. The vote failed to pass 4-1 against, with Benitz the only yes vote.

A third motion was made by Bardole and seconded by Muir for a 3.25 percent raise for all elected officials, except for the Sheriff that would receive seven percent. The Supervisors approved the vote unanimously.

The Board also approved the Recorder’s quarterly report of fees and the Auditor’s quarterly passport report for October through December 2025. The Board also heard from the Baker’s Group for financial assistance for a five-year capital project plan and financial advice on future bonding. The Board did not take formal action following the presentation.
