The Jefferson City Council met Tuesday night in regular session.
The Council approved a resolution for a list of the city employee salaries for 2025, another resolution for a 28E agreement for the swim team to utilize the Municipal Swimming Pool, and two other resolutions confirming Joe Foote as the Jefferson Community Golf Course Clubhouse Manager and Jacob Kopaska as the Superintendent for the upcoming season.
The Council also approved a proposal from Bolten and Menk to update the Risk and Resilience Plan, as well as the Emergency Response Plan for the water utility for a cost of $9,500.
Then, the Council heard about the Storage Solutions of Iowa business that is located in the Greene County Development Corporation East Business Park, along US Highway 30. GCDC Director Greg Piklapp said some of the units are used as cold storage rental units, but a majority of them are considered flex commercial space. He mentioned that those units are an open space that someone could lease to have an office area, along with storage and operate their business out of, such as plumbers, electricians, among others.
Council member Chad Sloan voiced concerns with the facility that it was a glorified storage unit area, which he didn’t see as creating new jobs or bringing economic development to the community. Piklapp noted that there were a variety of temporary jobs, such as installing the infrastructure, surveying, among other jobs and it creates pathways for those starting up a new business to eventually move into a permanent location.
