The Jefferson City Council met Tuesday night in regular session.\
The Council approved amending a loan to authorize a $1 million forgiveness. The city had secured a $1 million forgiveness from a $19,750,000 loan that was used for the Wastewater Treatment Plant improvement project. The forgiveness can be used now that the project is complete.
The Council then approved two economic development forgivable loan agreements, each for $75,000. One went to Dan Owens of Ownes and Sons Rental who purchased the former Sanctuary Church building along East Lincoln Way. Building Official Chad Stevens said the owner is wanting to house a spray foam insulation business, as well as custom gutters, for a total investment of over $250,000. The other was for Chad Sloan of Sloan Plumbing and Heating to build a storage facility just north of East Lincoln Way.
The Council also approved increasing compensation for the fire department volunteers. Fire Chief Jack Williams asked for an increase for new firefighters from $20 to $25 and those who are certified in Firefighter 1 would receive $30 per call. Williams also mentioned that firefighters need to maintain 24 hours of training to retain their certification.
He also asked for increases in compensation for the several officers, due to having to do more paperwork and investigations of fires. Finally, the Council approved a resolution hiring Quentin Spack for the Streets Department with an hourly wage of $25.50.
