A jury has found a Jefferson woman guilty of murder on Tuesday.
District Court Judge Derek Johnson was presiding over the jury trial of Christene Thompson, who was charged with a Class A Felony for first degree murder of her husband, Richard Thompson. The trial started on April 7th and ended on April 14th with the jury finding Christene guilty of first degree murder.
The guilty verdict stemmed from the incident that happened on June 27, 2025. Investigators found Richard’s body inside their home with bullet wounds. Court documents show that investigators found out that Christene and Richard had been fighting all that week, due to his apparent jealousy of Christene going to a bar the previous weekend.
Court documents show that Christene came home on June 27th and Richard was already intoxicated, and after she started drinking, there was another fight. Court documents indicate that Richard went into the bedroom and closed the door and Christene said he told her to shoot him. Court documents state that Christene removed a handgun from a safe and fired several shots into the bedroom.
Following the guilty verdict, Judge Johnson set the sentencing for June 5th.
