The boys and girls track teams were on the move yesterday, with the girls heading to Ankeny Centennial while the boys made the short bus ride to Waukee.
The girls had excellent performances across the board. The shuttle hurdle relay team caught their groove early and earned silver. The 4x800m relay team also was a second-place finisher. Leighton Stanford and Nevaeh Mayfield were the highest-placing individual athletes as they earned bronze in the 400 and 200, respectively.
The boys had their work cut out for them against tough opponents. The 4×200 team placed 3rd along with Jack Meggison in the 800 and Graham Ibeling in the 3200. A different relay team, the 800 medley, took off to make second place. Finally, the Mustangs had an individual athlete and a relay team earn gold. Darien Walker sprinted and leaped his way first in 110 hurdles. His time of 15.08 was only .03 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. The 4×110 shuttle hurdle team picked up right where Walker left off as they finished their race at the top of the podium.
