Perry Lutheran Homes recognized more than 50 individuals who give back to residents across its campuses during National Volunteer Week.
The individuals were honored during a Volunteer Appreciation Celebration on April 22.
Rev. Max Phillips, CEO, opened the event with reflections on the organization’s 70-year legacy.
“God has faithfully sustained this mission for 70 years. What began through the vision of Lutheran churches has grown through the support of the church, the community, and volunteers. Today, we continue to serve as a vibrant, intergenerational community where children and older adults grow in faith together.”
Elsa Reyes, Life Enrichment Director and Volunteer Coordinator, shared the impact volunteers make each day.
“I truly believe every person deserves purpose, connection, and to feel like they matter. That’s where you come in. I want to see what makes each volunteer unique and connect them with residents in meaningful ways.”
Volunteers represented a wide range of service, from sharing musical talents and conversation, to supporting activities, mentoring children through intergenerational programs, serving on the board of directors, and offering their time, skills, and life experience in meaningful ways.

Two individuals received special recognition. Caroline Bouvette was honored with the Faithful Servant Recognition for her consistent, compassionate presence. Luke Rowe received the Rising Servant Recognition for his dedication and the joy he brings as a young volunteer.
Bouvette, known for her quiet humility as well as her humor and ornery spirit, was deeply surprised and honored by the recognition, with her children present to celebrate alongside her. Her connection to Perry Lutheran Homes has grown so meaningful that she now calls it home as a full-time resident.
Luke’s impact is felt beyond the community. His mother, Molly Rowe, shared, “Perry Lutheran Homes is truly his second home.” He recently celebrated his 12th birthday surrounded by his many elder friends at Perry Lutheran Homes, where residents often describe him as having a big heart and being wise beyond his years.
Perry Lutheran Homes extends its sincere thanks to all volunteers for their continued service. Those interested in volunteering are encouraged to explore opportunities to share their time, talents, and gifts in meaningful ways at Perry Lutheran Homes.
