A bill helping those in foster care, and those looking to adopt them has been introduced in the US House of Representatives.
US Congressman for Iowa’s 3rd District Zach Nunn introduced the Protecting Sibling Relationships in Foster Care Act, which builds on previous efforts for foster children and adoption. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio why this bipartisan bill was brought about.
“More than half the kids in foster care today are separated from their brothers and sisters and that’s why I just introduced the bill. I’ve worked with Don Bacon, a Republican out of Omaha, and Gwenn Moore, a Democrat, and it funds a $10 million pilot program through health and human services to expand our foster care model so that we can actually keep brothers and sisters in the places where it is safe for them, but also where they can be together.”
Nunn mentions that the bill will help to keep larger sibling groups together, and also help families that would be looking to adopt larger groups as well. He adds that he also introduced a resolution recognizing National Foster Sibling Month.
