The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn and Perry Drama Departments have received several recognitions for their fall and spring musicals.

Three awards were announced by the Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards, sponsored by EMC Insurance Companies, for ADM’s production of “James and the Giant Peach.” Those included Distinguished Scene for “Floatin’ Along” and Special Recognition for Student Orchestra.

Will Truitt was also honored with a Special Recognition in a Principal Role for his character of James Henry Trotter.

According to Musical Co-Director Jenn Hillman, Perry received seven awards for their production of “The Addams Family.” 

Those included:

• Outstanding Achievement in a Principal Role–Jeancarlos Santiago Puente as Gomez Addams
• Special Recognition in a Principal Role–Alissa Atwell as Pugsley Addams
• Special Recognition in a Principal Role–Gavin Gamble as Mal Beinecke
• Special Recognition in a Principal Role–Levi Thoren as Lucas Beinecke
• Special Recognition in a Principal Role–Seth Borgeson as Uncle Fester
• Distinguished Scene–The Moon and Me, featuring Seth Borgeson as Uncle Fester, featured dancer Kya Lutterman, and female ancestors

Hillman says Oneida Hernandez and Jeancarlos Santiago Puente will also represent Perry High School by performing in a collaborative inter-school medley led by a guest Broadway music director and choreographer. Levi Thoren and Gavin Gamble have been selected as alternates.

Hillman adds that Jeancarlos Santiago Puente will perform a solo excerpt from his award-winning role in The Addams Family as Gomez Addams.

The IHSMTA Showcase will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 28 at the Des Moines Civic Center. Tickets will be available starting at 10 a.m. May 15 and can be purchased through the Des Moines Performing Arts organization online or by phone at 515-246-2300.
