The Adel Fire Department responded to a house fire on Monday that resulted in significant damage and one dog perished.

According to the department, firefighters responded to a residential structure fire in the 1500 block of Chance Court in Adel.

The department said crews arrived within minutes of dispatch and encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the home.  

The department detailed that firefighters began attacking the fire from the rear of the structure, with additional crews expanding operations to the front of the residence.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries, though the department added that three dogs were rescued by first responders and one dog perished in the fire.

The department shared that the home sustained significant damage and is currently not habitable. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Adel Fire Department.

Among the agencies that responded included the Dallas Center, DeSoto, Van Meter and Waukee Fire Departments, Adel Police Department, Dallas County Sheriff’s Office Iowa, Dallas County EMS, Dallas County Emergency Management and the American Red Cross Iowa Region.
