The West Central Valley Girls and Boys Track and Field Teams are preparing to make a trip to western Iowa tomorrow in anticipation of the Class 2A State Qualifying Meet.

Starting with the girls, Wildcat Head Coach Teah Stull is in her first year with the program, and says that she is impressed with the resiliency and willingness of the girls to contribute in whatever way possible. Stull shares her strategy ahead of tomorrow’s state qualifying meet.

“We’re really trying to make sure that they focus on feeling recovered, but ready. And just fine tuning some of the little things, and making sure that they have that positive mindset going into Thursday, so that they perform at their best. And, as a coach, you really just want your athletes to believe in them(selves) as much as you do.”

For the boys, West Central Valley Head Coach Jim Lindsay mentions that he knew there would be growing pains with the team being so young, but the guys have been setting new personal best times as the season has progressed. Lindsay’s approach to the competition is treating it as another track and field meet.

“We’ve got a pretty loaded district. It’ll be tough for us to get multiple events through, but you never know, it’s (about) what you do that night. We’re going to put our lineup out there, the best lineup that we can, and we’re going to compete and see what happens.”

The Class 2A State Qualifying Meet will feature Panorama, Treynor, Tri-Center, Underwood, Shenandoah, Kuemper Catholic, Missouri Valley, MVAOCOU, Red Oak, and Nodaway Valley. The competition is taking place at the Treynor Community School tomorrow, starting at 4pm.
