graduation

Greene County and Paton-Churdan High School graduations are this weekend.

Paton-Churdan is hosting its commencement ceremony on Saturday at 2pm at the school gymnasium in Churdan. According to guidance counselor Libby Towers, there are 11 seniors that will be recognized, with Mia Russell as this year’s valedictorian and Phoenix Hartman as the salutatorian.

Towers adds that this year’s senior class is a true example of what it means to have work-life balance. She states whether a student has a full-time job, involved in extracurricular activities, or both, these seniors have proven their abilities to be a successful member of society.

Greene County will have its graduation ceremony on Sunday at 2pm at the high school auditorium. Superintendent Brett Abbotts says there is a potential of having 96 seniors walk across the stage on Sunday. He offers this message to the graduating class.

“So some words of advice for them is remember the experiences that they had during high school, remember who they are, what they represent and who they represent. But go on and make a life for yourself.”

High School Principal Karen Shannon says their event will also feature recently retired educator, Deb Marquardt, as the guest speaker. Guidance counselor Stef Jorgensen adds that last week during the Senior Awards Night, over $240,000 of scholarships were awarded. Both graduation ceremonies are open to the public.
