Recent rains have brought some needed relief for farmers.

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Field Agronomist for Adair County Aaron Saeugling says that at the beginning of May’s second week, the ground was pretty dry, causing fields to become crusted over. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that over the weekend though, plenty of rain came down.

“Some folks have got more than what they want, especially if you get in the southern part of your listening area. There’s some places down there that got quite a bit of rain, and then we have isolated cases of wind, and probably maybe some hail in some pockets here and there.”

Saeugling mentions that farmers may be looking at some sporadic replanting. He adds that individuals should be assessing fields, and working to decide if they want to replant or not.
