Greene County High School senior Trey Tucker was voted onto the Iowa Newspaper Association Class 3A All-State second team by sportswriters from across the state. Tucker helped the Rams to a 14-8 season record, their first winning season in the five years playing as Greene County, and a second place finish in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference.
Tucker led Class 3A in scoring at 24.5 points per game, scoring 538 this season, and 1,811 in his career, the highest total of any boy in a Jefferson-based program, which goes back more than 100 years. In addition, Tucker made 52.5% of his field goal attempts, including 44.1% from three-point range, and he was a 70% free throw shooter. The 6′ 0″ guard also led the Rams in rebounding, steals, and assists.
Earlier, Tucker was named to the HOIAC first team, as well as the Substate team, which included Ballard (Huxley), Boone, Dallas Center-Grimes, Gilbert, Humboldt, Perry, Webster City, and the Rams. This not only is Tucker’s first All-State honor, but also the first for a player coached by head coach Chris Nelson, who completed his first season here after nine years at Glidden-Ralston.
