The Greene County School Board recently decided how to handle the projects for the upcoming school year for the student construction program.
At their regular meeting earlier this month, the Board decided to push forward with building another home, while also renovating the interior of the second-floor apartment of the Prairie Lakes Area Education Agency’s building on the north side of the downtown square in Jefferson. Superintendent Tim Christensen explains why the Board wanted the class to build another home.
“Part of that decision was based on a sharing agreement for next year with Southeast Valley (School District) that they’re going to send students down to be a part of our construction program. We want to make sure that we’re providing a quality program for our students, as well as any students that are coming for that program.”
The District will also apply for a challenge grant for the AEA project through the Iowa Economic Development Authority.
Christensen says the home that the class recently finished is still for sale on East Wilcox Way. He adds that the proceeds from the sale go back into the construction program for materials for the next house they’ll build this upcoming school year.
